Grimm’s Red Riding Hood for iOS

News

It’s been less than a week since we released Grimm’s Red Riding Hood ~ 3D Interactive Pop-up Book for iOS, but it’s already exceeded our expectations by a long, long way. We were amazed at how quickly it rose in the charts globally. In particular, it hit the number one spot in the iPad Books category in Germany (top 50 overall in the iPad chart) after only two days in the wild and has remained there until today when it fell back to the number two spot. It continues to hold it’s position high in the top 5 in the iPad Books category in France and is doing fantastically well in both the US and the UK.

After only a few hours on the App Store we appeared in “New and Noteworthy” in the UK on both iPhone and iPad which is a wonderful endorsement of the app.

UPDATE – It’s been another four days and we simply had to update this post with a shot of the iPad Book chart in France. Grimm’s Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel are topping the charts in France too!

To celebrate the release, we’re running a promotional competition. We’re giving away custom t-shirts featuring artwork from all of our titles and we’ll be adding more designs to the design selection over the coming days and weeks. You can find out more about the competition at the product web site.

As a bonus, we’re making 3D Classic Literature Collection for iPhone free for a limited time so if you haven’t already got it, now is your chance!

We also have good news for our Mac customers. We submitted the OSX build of Grimm’s Red Riding Hood around about the same time as the iOS version, so expect to see that on the Mac App Store any day now.

We have some big feature updates planned for PopIris™, not to mention we’re already well into production on our next big project. So stay tuned for more in the coming weeks!

Grimm’s Rapunzel From Ideal Binary Hits the Mac App Store

News

Dublin, Ireland – February 23, 2011 – Ideal Binary Limited, a privately held Mac®, iPad™, iPhone® & iPod touch® developer and publisher, is pleased to announce the release of Grimm’s Rapunzel ~ 3D Interactive Pop-up Book for Mac®, available at $3.99 / €2.99 / £2.39 for the first week of release.

Ideal Binary has brought the award winning Grimm’s Rapunzel, the second in a series of interactive 3D pop-up ebooks for iOS, to the Mac App Store℠. Grimm’s Rapunzel has been hugely successful on iOS, winning a Best App Ever 2010 award (Best Kids App, iPhone Division). It was also long-listed for a 2010 Digitial Book World Publishing Innovation award, Children’s Book category.

Praised by both TUAW and iLounge, Grimm’s Rapunzel is recognised as being one of the most innovative children’s books of 2010.

Grimm’s Rapunzel is a uniquely presented adaptation of the classic Grimm Brothers’ tale. Featuring beautifully illustrated interactive 3D pop-up scenes to accompany the text, the reader can interact with the story in an entirely new way, playing with screen elements or viewing scenes from new perspectives. Accompanied by a fantastic music score, narrations in three languages and a host of highly interactive pop-up scenes, Grimm’s Rapunzel offers an incredibly immersive and educational experience that blurs the lines between books and games, defining a new category for interactive entertainment. The book features “Read to Me”, “Read it Myself” and “Autoplay” modes offering different ways to experience the story.

Powered by PopIris™ from Ideal Binary, Grimm’s Rapunzel further develops the new standard set by Grimm’s Rumpelstiltskin released earlier this year. Grimm’s Rumpelstiltskin was chosen by Apple to be iPad App of the Week in twenty countries around the world. Says Aidan Doolan, Ideal Binary co-founder: “We’ve extended platform support in our new PopIris™ technology so we can now target all iOS and also the Mac platform from a single source base.” He continues “The Mac build of Grimm’s Rapunzel brings all of the features of the iOS version, including top quality narrations, beautiful visuals and interactive scenes that weave the user into the story. We’ve also added full-screen support, which works amazingly well.”

A significant development of Ideal Binary’s original 3D Classic Literature Collection™ application, at the core of the PopIris™ toolset lies a proprietary high performance 3D eBook engine. Using cutting edge techniques PopIris™ can produce a convincing 3D simulation of a real book, while also integrating highly interactive 3D scenes, allowing the reader experience the underlying story in an incredibly immersive way. The engine enables PopIris™ based eBooks to out-perform other interactive books of this nature.

Grimm’s Rapunzel is the second release in a series of books to be powered by the PopIris™ engine. Find out more at www.pop-iris.com.
